Flashback Friday!

Remember when? Christmas was about going to church, coming home going to sleep and never really being asleep?

When my first Brother and I were 11 and 10, we got up at 2am and found 1 gift that he got from Santa. It was a Chinese Checkers Board. We were obsessed with the game when we went to visit my grandmothers house on Sundays, we'd play against our Grandfather or Grandmother or our Aunts and uncles and cousins. We played and played everytime we visited. (which was like once a week atleast) So when we saw this game under the tree, we squirreled it away into my brother room and we played all night until 6am when we got couldn't contain the excitement any longer and went and woke up our little sister so she would wake up Mom and Dad.

Remember when, the last week before Christmas was time to decorate and finish up the shopping?

Remember when you would line up to go see Santa one last time just to be sure he didn't forget what you wrote him in that letter last week? You knew he had lots of letters, you really didn't want to get yours lost in the pile.

Remember when you would go to the see Santa at the local fire station (it was the biggest red/yellow truck available) and bring home a bag of candy? this stuff

Remember when every classroom had a Christmas Tree from Primary to Grade 6?

Remember singing in a Christmas Concert at night? Or reading your prewritten part, because you didn't get picked to sing (please mouth the words).

Remember going door to door singing? but it wasn't singing to houses, you went singing to the Downtown stores instead which got really cold really quick?

What do you Remember from Christmas gone by? Have you kept any of those traditions or has time taken the innocence away? 

It must be the Moon?Random Tuesday

the Moon! that must be it, I'm totally out of sorts today. I'm in fog. I went to get youngest because he called from school, but he called back to say he's staying.  He's been sick since last Thursday with a bad stuffy cold but wants to go "down town" with his class today. He's pushing through. OK, so I figure I'll get some things done in town.I was 3/4 of the way there when he called the cell. Car answered.  I hate a wasted drive into Fredericton. I go to the bank, I try to put the checks? in the cash slot. after pressing Cash and Checks, I press no receipt and then wait for the thing to give me a receipt? 

Ok so I'm leaving the bank and some one is coming into park, they pick the spot beside me but I forget they are longer than I am, so have to then resteer to get out. Why didn't I think of that before I started out? because I'm so not into today. I did not hit the other car, I did not hit anyone. OK so as I'm heading back to my home, I spot the Dollarama.. what did I need. What did I need. I'll go in look around, and I'm sure it will come to me. 10 Plus dollaramas later I realized I didn't get the thing I needed. They are great there at that location, so I ask can I leave this here? and go back. yep off I go, pick up the scrubby sponges and check out again. As I'm checking out I'm dropping coins because I'm positive I have Cash in my bag enough. Yep. I think it's safe to say it's time to go home before I do more damage. 

Am I the only person that drives past every place saying "do I need something there?" before still driving on? I can't be the only person that has a running list in their head but never seems to accomplish any of it? 

Happy Tuesday I hope this is random enough, HA! oh the dentist office called. REmember way back when when every random Tuesday had a dentist appointment? well now it's mostly the phone calls reminding us they want more money. 
Speaking of dentist appointments, when you go to get fillings done who does the filling? Not the drilling but the actual filling of the tooth?

I started writing something earlier. It was too long for a FB status and too short for a blog post. So here sits Draft... waiting. But for fun, today I will hit publish.


Do you Dream? Do you remember your dreams? If you remember your dreams are they in the morning or during the night? Seems lately most of my dreams happen on the island. I only lived on the island 22yrs. Next year I'll have been out of there 22yrs, funny how that happens. I do wonder if I dream of home because it's the Thanksgiving weekend? hmmm? See? short.

First Day 2016/2017 Here We Come

So here we are it's the first Day back to school for a lot of kiddies!

So as part of the First day and the first of the fall and the first of the year and fresh start type of feeling. I'm going to Random up today with Stacy Uncorked.

 My "Baby" Mr Babe is off to his first day in Middle School. When did that happen?

Time Flies

Things running through my mind.
Tea really does taste better in the early mornings vs the sleep in mornings of summer. It just seems to have  a place.

This morning though it was only 10am and I was thinking about lunch. I had breakfast at 730am. Yes I do need to stop thinking about food and my next meal all the time. I think though I'm going to use this for good. I'm going to try to plan supper a little better for the rest of the week.

Summer doesn't quite feel over yet ,I just want the clouds to burn off today as it's a hot one. If the clouds burn off maybe it will get rid of this humidy that Hermine* is bringing up the coast. (*Thanks CBC news for the link.)

It could be worse it could be that 4 letter word that know one wants to talk about yet.

I think weather wise we had a good summer, not overly hot but not too cool either. Lots of Rain in August.


Up until yesterday I was still using August as my month Date. Yesterday was August 36th. Today though with 1 off to school he's September 6th. I can't fight it anymore now. what? you all know you want summer to last longer, it's Canada we can use a little more heat.

Oh as for more random, Sunday night I saw a Car driving opposite me and I swear they had a white unicorn head in the front seat. I told the kids I had with me in the car? They were concerned for my health and ability to continue driving them home.  "Mom you didn't see that you are nuts!" Thanks kids. I know I saw it. I'm so convinced I was going to post to FB on a local group asking if someone local had a unicorn head and was driving around with it, but I thought maybe others would question my sanity? Really I did see it!! front passenger seat. Gray Car.

I think that's all the Random I can spit out at you today. I hope to make it back next week too.

We All Need to Eat

Here we are mid July, and I've got Teens that have reached the "What do we have to eat" phase of their time off.  My lackadaisical weekend options are out, they are tired of mini pizzas but Hello McCain I really do love your mini pizzas for teens it's the go to all year round. Love the sale prices this time of year too. They really aren't complaining about the pizza every other day thing but I am ,it can't be a good plan. They would live on it if they could, well there is one odd child here that doesn't like pizza sauce so sees Garlic sticks and thinks they are all his? 3 teen boys I'm calling it survival...

We can't have pizza daily so what are you all eating this summer? What are you doing on those really hot days when you just want to have the food find it's way to your stomach and be healthy? I was using fruit trays, due to cost I have been cutting up the fruit myself and reusing the trays. The kids will stop by the tray look at it pick out what they want and eat it, both nutritious and hydrating.

It's the Main meals of the evening I'm stuggling with, I can only do : Hamburger, Hotdogs, chicken burgers, oh look rain, chicken strips and fries, then pizza, and Weekend "if you find it in the fridge eat it?" so many times before I get the "moooooooooooooooom again?"I can almost feel the eye roll from here and they are all still in bed!

I converted cheese hotdog buns to sub buns, they eat 2 now they aren't loading the up enough, it's meat and cheese for them unless we are calling a pickle a vegetable?  PB and J while great for the summer since they aren't doing sports or camps is a novelty for the first week, but what's next. No they wont eat salad, well one will but he's not going to do that daily and when we say salad it's got cheese, bacon, croutons and half a bottle of creamy ranch in there.

So I ask you blog world what are you feeding your Campers At Camp MOM! :)

  

With the Snowdays Come Postdays!

I was reading another person's complaint about snowdays* 

These complaints come from either parents who have no back up plan, work outside the homewith unreasonable work place managers, or like to contract out their daytime parenting. Yes there are people who realize the limitations of their patience levels and ability to cope and are skilled enough to see it for what it is and hire Nanny's or day cares with their Skilled Paychecks. High 5's to them.
For me? <-- ME! not the whole world but me...  

The Secret is to have no where to go at all, I have nothing that can't be scrapped for another day. If the Roads aren't clear?I'm not going to be risking our lives to get them anywhere. Today our Dentist office is closed. I'll be calling them tomorrow to rearrange the cleaning appointment for my son. The Staff at the office? are I'm sure both giggling at being home, and cringing over the tight days of squeezing us and all the others in but that's what happens when it's too dangerous to go to work. Those with major appointments will I'm sure be squeezed in first. 

The hospital is also on emergency services only. No need killing off the already bare bones staff trying to get them to work. This is a definite change,  I recall my Mom didn't have that option in the 70's, 80's and 90's you got your butt to work even if it meant spending extra Dollars on a Taxi vs driving yourself over.  Safety first. We have really come a long way with our regard to the life of workers. Dead Staff can't help patients. Well trained EMTs can though get you to the hospital in an emergency. (well that got serious fast didn't it) Things that can be put off, for a snow day, should and do. Plan to work from home, and watch the weather, you know you'll need to work harder either before or after the storm. This isn't rocket Science. BTW I'm pretty sure a rocket launch falls under a certain time sensitive get to work event but does have to have a back up plan for a hurricane or other Storm event.  Airplanes? also not getting off the ground. (btw Ice Pilot NWT Theme song is playing on the radio behind me) Those Pilots up north? they're also grounded when it's too dangerous to fly. You just can't do what you just can't do. 

After the 3hours they slept in, because they are scared it's a dream that I haven't woken them up and if they wake up it will be again 630am not 9 or 10 or even noon for the older ones, I remind them they have homework.This homework is for the next day and books to read and that the due date of that assignment was today? is now tomorrow. That's at least 2hours. If it doesn't work, or they actually did their homework, outside! 

Go out side, have lots of gloves and mitts and hats ready and dry and at the door for the "my mitts are wet", and "I have to go pee" so they can go back out to the fun.  Yes they can wear their boots through the house, just follow them with a mop or towel, the less time spent taking off the faster they get back out. 
Older Children will need to clear the walk way for the post storm freeze. Omgee this is turning into a blog post. HA! off to go.(this all started as a reply on FB ) 
And there you get the rest. **

The walk ways, the neighbour's walk ways, the end of the driveway that the plow just dumped into your driveway will all need shoveling. Shoveling is exercise***. Look at those Calories burn, which  means more room for Storm chips! Yep it's a thing now! Local too.  And hot chocolate and well all that leftover Christmas baking you may have left in the freezer. Whaat? you don't have any left? well then better make some Storm Fudge...

Yummy! The driveway will be all kinds of streamlined! I should though really learn to use the snow blower.

If the children have totally exhausted themselves outside they will come in and zone out in front of the tv, or the video games. Winter wear in the Dryer for tomorrow or after Supper, it's their day and next thing you know? it's  bed time. Done! the Day is done and they will enter the rest of the week refreshed. Because tomorrow I think is movie day at school?  One is watching A Christmas Carol for English Class and the other is watched Labyrinth for? uh? I really don't know what subject that falls under when you're doing a French Term.
