Good Bye 2012

As with every year, we take a moment look back and think, What happened? I can't for the life of me think of anything "major" that happened within my circle of me.  I did Turn 40.

Mr almost 8 just came in singing "I'm missing two missiles, I'm missing 2 missiles for my Gun". I see we're really going to have to work on Gun control here in the house. ( it's A nerf gun bought by some Grandparents) I do not necessarily want 2013 to be the year of the Gun as was 2012. Definitely going to have to work on that. We'll have to stick to Ninjas,no one sees what they do.

So let's go back in time shall we? January, chair stuck in snow,
February Chair stuck in snow,
March, early Melt, Definitely Perth Andover made the NB news that month.

April was a nice reasonable melt. I think it was the fastest melt since we moved here in 2003.

May some Beach going yes we went to the Beach here I think the 16th of May the Earliest Beach visit ever.
June saw the end of the School year for the boys and we were VERY ready.
July, The Summer Olympics and  the boys did baseball, Soccer, and T-ball, and we went on Vacation! yep we did it August saw us touring more places in NS than Cape Breton Island.

September was back to School Season. This Fall was wonderful for the boys. Middle School for mr middle, End of Middle School for Mr Tall. (had to change his name he's now taller than some of his aunts), and Mr Little is cruising along with his reading and spelling. October brought us creative Halloween and  the first year Our Mr Tall didn't go  Trick or Treating.

November was the 40th Birthday for me, there was Cheese cake, and yes I finally joined the "smart phone" generation and am now connected. And the end of the Deck building season. No I did not bury my husband in the back yard.

December saw me Record Sales for My Avon, and us travelling to the Island for a Christmas Vacation.

I end this final post of 2012 with my FB status for the evening..

" Happy New Years Eve to All my friends and Family and Happy 2013 to all those that have already arrived. I hope it's going well, I'll meet you there in about 11hours. Enjoy your evenings and Party Safely. If you're Driving be careful of the roads, the weather and the other drivers. If you're Driving please do not drink, text or take photos. Focus on the road so we see you all in 2013!"

Christmas Vacationing

This year we headed for the island after Christmas. When we left our house my chair looked like this..
A nice sun shiny Day. The chair watched us pack, and get in the car. He didn't wave? I wondered if he'd be ok?

This was the views along the road going east.

Then we hit the border of Nova Scotia. and as you see, the snow magically disappeared. I heard from my neighbours that it snowed up here while we were gone? I have no pictures of that snow fall. It was nice and calm when we left the island yesterday. We got in at 930pm and vegged. I got up at 9am this morning and this was my view...

I'm so glad we got in the car yesterday although it felt like the snow wasn't coming? It didn't snow up here until after 2am, I'm sure. And it's still snowing an hour later. Oh Winter you are a crazy ride.

Power's Back

It really does do me in when there's no power. Reading a book by a candle? how did our ancentors not go blind? oh yes a majority of them did from eye strain.  Also when you're on a well? You need yourself some power to keep your water running. Last night I was out collecting snow for overnight flushing. In the end the power came on before I fell asleep, but I kept the melting snow in the house just incase.

Random Tuesday Thoughts

It's another Tuesday, join in the fun over at Stacy Uncorked. I';m going to keep it light and random. I truthfully can't handle the deep thoughts today.

Woke up with a headache. So I turned on the radio, and yes confirmed, 30-40cm of snow expected unless it warms up a tad, it's currently melting all the ice that was out there as of yesterday.

I got a gift lastnight. :)
Ignore the "naturally" antique table. It was my husband's as a child. Originally baby nursery green but I painted it red in 2003. The boys loved using it on the porch to paint their master pieces. Mr Middle especially. He made a replica of the Titanic on that table for Gr3.

I've been watching old movies today. I had mentioned my Christmas favorite last week and it's on TCM today. I can't wait to see it today. I've been watching a few others here and there. Right now is "I love you again". I love the hats. What a wonderful style.

The Weekend here went well. The boys had a great time at curling again, they had snacks and cookies for a small party for the Christmas season. I ordered a gift for someone while I Was there. It will be in Friday. I';m quite excited, I'll take a picture after Christmas for you all after it goes to the recipient.

Bananas are my best friend. I've been eating them between meals to keep me out of the sweets. I did have an episode with some Breton Brittle. Breton Crackes in Carmel with chocolate tops. Oh my!

I still have a few gifts to finish up and wrap but I'm "done".  I wonder though what Santa will be bringing me? The guy is mighty nice. I'm on the hunt for a new Wiifit plus disc. I have everything but the disc, as it died. The wii wont read it anymore.

I'm van less today, with the storm coming I gave the heavier vehicle to the man since it will probably handle better.

So are you all ready? 1wk from now we should be sitting in a pile of used wrapping paper?

Christmas Count Down Tag.

So I totally swiped this from Debby's "Just Breathe" blog.
Favorite Winter Nail Polish
Well let me see, it's definitely Avon, I guess A shade of red? I don't really have a favourite per season, I just pick one. I do have a really pretty pink shade that I love called Sheer Liliac which is more pink than lilac but more clear than coated. :)

Favorite Winter Lip Product

Avon's Advance Moisture Therapy or the for a flavoured one, it's the Sugar cookie one.
Most Worn Winter Clothing Piece

My black winter coat it's a lined and nice for going everywhere, only 4 more months and I can put it away again.

Most Worn Winter Accessory

My Pink Avon Scarf, it's nice and wide and fills in the front of the black coat, or wait maybe it's my Head Gloves with the fake fur cuffs. Yes they are gray.

Favorite Winter Candle

I don't use Candles usually but I did just buy myself (why yes I am my own best customer) a Strawberries and Cream candle on Demo, so it's sitting out. Not using it yet but I can smell just a touch of it. So far the husband isn't complaining about it. I think because it's a "happens in nature" smell vs the over powering smells of some perfumes.

Favorite Winter Beverage

Tea!!! I LOVE my hot tea in the mornings

Favorite Christmas Movie

Meet Me In St. Lois. LOVE that Judy Garland.
Favorite Christmas Song
Gloria

Favorite Holiday Food
Let me see, Turkey Dinner for Christmas Day but for Christmas Eve it's something I don't have to spend a lot of time cooking. Like snacky things, I LOVE food. Perogies are on that list too.

Favorite Christmas Decoration

These...
What is at the top of your Christmas list?
I tell my kids Cooperation and peace, but "material" Santa ish? Gift cards.

What are your plans for Christmas this year?
Not completely solidified, we're still working on our plans. Home with the boys Eve and Day and then visiting as the days come and go.

Here are the questions if you want to play along:

RTT Baking sheets, Purple Shirts, Ties, Chairs.

So it's Random Thursday Thoughts day again. Julie and Stacy (Squeeeeeeee Stacy's got Christmas decor on her page today!!!!)
will love it if I put something here to read, I'm sure. If you want to join  along just go to those pages and link up.

The count down is one only 13days! yep Funny how a year boils down to a count down for the last month or that's certainly how it seems when I'm looking at flyers, commercials, and Christmas Specials.

Happy Hannukah to my Jewish readers, I think it's Day 4. I love that it's a Blue holiday. I LOVE blue.

The chair, you are all curious aren't you?  Here is the picture I posted to FB on Monday. To quote what I said there:
“Really people a new deck and they‘ve still left us out here watching snow fall.“ said the chair to the ignored patio table.
“oh don‘t I know it chair. I heard from Avon chair,(on the front porch) they are using a glass (la tee da) patio table for a desk in the cozy basement?" (Over exagerated eye roll)

I did some shopping today. I found cookie sheets on for 3.89!! Wilton even at a local department store that doesn't start with a W or a Z.

I was on the hunt for a purple tie today. We were looking for a purple Shirt lastnight but found black, and so today I went to get a purple tie to go with the black shirt to jazz (jazz band pun) it up. I bumped into another mom, looking for a purple belt for regular band.  I fond a black with purple stripe that will give it a ribbon look and awesomer the cashier tied it for me!!!:) (yes I'm a sad case)

So now I'm sitting here reading blogs, texting the dh, and waiting for kids to get home from school. Yesterday was a snow day but it should have been called an ice day. Holy thick covering of mess batman.

Well that's all the random I can randomly spit at you. SQUIRREL!!!

How very Non Martha of Me Too!

This post is dedicated to all us stressed out, over extended Moms.

So I was over reading this week at Carmen's Blog. She mentioned her "not" Martha Moment, I'll let you go read and catch up...

So I read that warning tale of multitasking and then continued to do the wrong thing. Yep! I baked up an orange loaf, and got to the sauce part, sugar and the juice of 1 orange. I texted the hubbie to tell him that our son's were not doing after school stuffs and talked to our youngest about his homework, I went and played a few zygna games(yes was destressing), read some more blogs, loaded the laundry, and folded laundry, talked to the cat, unloaded the dishwasher, read some statuses.. and went and took a shower. YEP! went and took a shower.. and the older two came into the house, I got out of the shower and smelled smoke....
The pot was half full of black bubbles.

So do not multitask yourself into a bad baking event. The pot this morning after baking soda soaks looks like this...

14 Things I Don't Miss from Childhood

Headless Mom is inspiring me again. She swiped it from Schmutzie  so in the spirit of Great Minds think alike,I'm going to try to make myself into a great mind and Think like they do. They seem to be a very good example. Swipe away if you like.

So this 40th Birthday of mine helped make this post seem very important. I think I'm starting to think I'm a real grown up with no chance of going back.
I do not miss...

1.  Sharing the bathroom with my brother, but I have to say it gave me great practice for this house full.
2.  Going to bed early, I've become a night owl, but I like mostly being in control of bed time.
3.  Someone telling me what I should and shouldn't eat? or how much. Sure It's in my control to eat the whole box of cookies, I wont but now I can if I want
4.   Bringing home report cards. There is no report card for me anymore.
5.   Someone policing the TV!
6.   Someone policing my reading choices. If I want to read a smutty book I can, and yep I probably will
7.   Sharing the TV. I can tell my peeps to go to bed and weeeeeeeee it's mine all mine.
8.   Practicing Piano. I loved playing with the Piano but I Think the idea of being able to play was bigger than my skills.
9.    Bullies. I had my share of Bullies growing up, and I don't miss any of them. Some are now in Jail, oh well consequences there guys.
10.  Walking home in dresses! When I first started school it was the 70s and a time when some people thought girls should only wear dresses to school. I do not miss dresses and Hurricane force winds. And trying to get my overshoe (winter boots) over my indoor shoes.
11. Oh look I thought of another one, not picking out my own clothes.
12. Leotards (tights as they are known to other places)  Cold legs due to the stupid COLD winds.
13. Matching TAMS! and Little cute church coats. Why oh why?
14.  Gym class.

10 Things I miss from Childhood

I totally swiped this idea from the Headless Mom :)

Since today is my Birthday I thought it was a great idea. So 10 Things I miss...

1. Cartoons with my younger brothers and sisters on a Saturday morning.
2. Sliding in the Snow during a storm, and coming in and out and in and out for new mitts, or waiting for my mitts to FREEZE enough so they weren't really "wet"
3. playing in the sprinkler or the wet banana slip and side.
4. having my Mom do my hair in braids. Yeah sure it hurt sometimes but I loved the kinks after we took them out.
5.  playing crazy 8's in my friends basement. I was really bummed when she moved away. Still haven't found her even on FB
6.  catching snow flakes on my tongue.
7.  Going to Visit my GM and then going next door to play with my cousins.
8. Vic 20 Games!
9. Not having to buy Gas for my car.
10. Not paying bills.

only 9minutes left to this Birthday! I've enjoyed every Minute!

Random Tuesday Thoughts, Milling it.

I'm here, yes I'm here on the treadmill, doing my Random bit for Random Tuesday Thoughts. Typing and walking is so challenging but I know if I don't even try, I'll never fit both the blogging and the treadmilling. (new word)

So link up over at Stacy's...
Stacy

and join into the random crazy posting.

Today was Avon day. YAY! new packages. I may have bought myself a few things here and there. I'll have to find a pic of my ring. It's adorable! Christmas shopping is going to be so easy for ME! I don't even have to leave the house, it will all just show up.  Other people's gifts? Do you think Santa stuff's stockings with acne cleansers?   nah they probably still want toys right? oh well More for me!

So this past couple of months we've been working on the back deck. You remember the Man in the hole I was digging and filling in the back yard? it's almost full and now it has a deck over most of it. I'll still need to find more dirt.

Also the chair? had an event last week...

22minutes of treadmilling,so hard ot type straight. ha!! I'll have to get to a slower pace to add pictures.

what else is Random this week?

Has anyone started decorating? it was so warm this past weekend 15-17.5C breaking records even according ot the weather netowrk. not quite the Canadian November i'm used to. I know I'll be kicking myself for not decorating this past weekend when it's - crazy c next week.

hang on must run my butt for a bit ....

pa nt....

see slacked earlier today m ust make up...pant pant... .

good thing avon sells antipersprants...............

I've got a friend you remember Julie? momspective.com <-- she's  back) can hula hoop and text.. typing and milling is hard enough...

you know once that first 30 is done, I feel like I can keep walking but pre 30? I feel like a hampster in a torture wheel.

Good thing I used my avon eye make up remover before I got on here, I'd  be a raccoon now..... Oh look a hill!

I think I'll try movies tomorrow for hampster work.

I have to say I do like this Mill, it's better than being out in the -30C's I know are coming. What gets me the most frustrated is 9yrs ago? I'd be out no matter the temp walking my butt off and now a meer 3days to 40, and I'm whining. I think maybe too I had a lot more to crank on about then. Sleepless nights with yhoung kids, and of course i drank lots of coffee then?  now, tea is my day starter. Well it's now 1015pm time to end my Random Ramblings... I'll get you some pics. (random pic placing)

In case anyone needs to remember what kind of cake I want?

YES I want to be Spoiled!

I'm clicking the publish, I've now over stayed my treadmill 20minutes with photo hunting and linking.

Random Tuesday Thoughts... Sandy, Grease, zebra,

So it's Tuesday, Tuesday really are awesome. There seems to be a lull here in the wind coming in from Post Tropical Storm Sandy. The garbage can toppled first and then the chairs. You saw yesterday's chair photo. Today another chair is down but that seems to be the extent of my yard damage.

I'm lax today, really lax, I went back to bed. I suspect it's the silly candy I bought yesterday for Wednesday. I'm going to have to walk on my treadmill again tonight to recover some of the damage. I Love me some candy. oops! they were seasonal candy those creams I think they are called? mini pumpkins, candy corn, witches, butterflies, and mummies. Yellow, brown, orange and of course candy corn. Yummy but..butt!

Middle child is working on his Costume. He wants to be Steve from Mine Craft. I swear that game is taking over the world... Creepers and all.

I suggested a Zebra, since I already own the Zebra hat, (warm as toast!) I said put a clown wig on it some black and white striped pants and shirts, and some bingo dabber dots and he's Marty from Madagascar?

I  suspect that our oldest will borrow Daddy's Angry Fast Bird costume? and I'll just stuff  it with balloons? I found the pillows didn't really hold the triangle shape for hubbie lst year. see... I'll have to find that pic...

see no triangle butt

Everyone was talking about Sandy Cheeks from Spongebob when talking about Sandy but today? I've been thinking Grease the movie. HA! I even saw a photo on CNN with her photo as the hurricane spinner graphics off the coast of the USA.
So did you all buy your trick or treating treats?  Or have you been out already?

Our youngest is going to be a ninja, i got smart this year, I brought up 1 outfit we had in the house for him to try on, hahah all the rest are still boxed and bagged and he's decided he'll use the ninja suit I brought up. I mentioned this to Mom and she says "what about the fun of dressing up?" oops! You just can't argue with a Mom of 5 can you? So I'll get him to check out the other costumes in the box today.
I can't wait to post pics Thursday.

Waiting for Sandy (Chair Status)

I'm quite inland here so I don't expect a lot of waves or tidal waves. Some people are experiencing that up the  Eastern coast of the USA.  Please stay safe and sane. Don't forget to go visit your neighbours for chocolate stock on Wednesday.

As of 2pm (an hour ago), the wind had knocked over my Garbage can and 2 chairs in the back yard.

Words oh the Words!!

Today instead of a Wordless Wednesday I've got words.  Today I'm listening to the local Radio Morning show. Lots of Talk, they have a morning discussion and ask questions to toss around with the listeners. Today's Discussion started with "What should older women or younger women not wear". Kudos going out to the Text contributor that went "off topic" and added men because well that of course evened the playing field.

So someone said men over a certain age should not be wearing leather pants. The Announcer defended his own by pointing out they are used for Motorcycle biking. So you've defended yourself, excellent but what about those that just can't get their heads around building themselves back up after being put down for what they wear or can afford to put on that day?

We've got a lot of talk in schools about anti bullying, if you are walking down the hall of a school and pointing out what so and so shouldn't be wearing? what happens next? Does he or she defend themselves or do they latch on to that in their current adolescent turmoil(finding themselves) and say "no one likes me" "why am I here?" or do they run it through their brains over and over and over wondering why? If they are lucky they are confident in themselves and know exactly what they are wearing and why and don't give it a thought but not all kids have that ability. They put a lot of value within themselves on what other people say. Keep it friendly people.  And oh did Mom or Dad take the last few $ they had that paycheck and buy the person their only pair of jeans they could find within that set price? Are they brand name? Probably not, are they the same as everyone else wears? nope, but they fit and they are clean and warm enough to get them through to the next season or growth spurt.

Think before you speak, be an example to others.  It's true there are some people that need to make an effort to put themselves together for the day, and make a positive impression for their next job or opportunity in life and that's all there is to it. Comb your hair, brush your teeth, put a smile on your face and be yourself. No one can take that away from you. Adults be a better example, kids watch everything you do, and they learn from your example. Treat others exactly as you would like to be Treated. Be respectful. Enjoy the person not what they happen to wear that day. Get to know a person's soul...

I know I'm guilty of saying things and making judgements on others but I'm learning too. No one likes a Judgy Mc Judgerson but saying something when things are wrong is worth more than anything I could post in a picture today.

How I Spent my Summer Vacation Part 4

So it seems my kids get their procrastination skills honestly. Yes this is the 4th round of Summer Vacation talks. It was 2 degrees C here Thursday morning so a bit of Summer heat is welcome to me. So after our ride around the harbour and watching the buskers we went to tour the Museum of the Altantic. I wish I had gotten a picture of a book they had  in the case. It was the original "google business". A Business man had taken the time to make a directory of every business in the world! Maybe I can find a google pic? The museum is crammed full of information.  Things to be seen, fake rotting Pirate Bodies, Titanic artifacts, The whole story of the cabling of the Atlantic ocean, boats, the Stories and artifacts from the Halifax Explosion, a computer to practice Morse Code, and so much more! oh and it's air conditioned! and when it's 32C some a/c is mighty comforting. The boys saw a lot and it was a lot to take in but they got to their saturation point early. Part of our admission was also the tour of the Acadia and the Sackville.
Photo Dump....

My youngest checking out the Big Guns.

my boy, boats and water

You really have to see these things, it's totally worth the tour.
about the directory
Wright's Directory, I did get a picture

After leaving Halifax we stopped in Truro where we stopped at the same restaurant chain we had stopped in before. The service was excellent. This was the one thing that was really enjoyable about our trip, we could count on Jungle Jim's to be clean, friendly and kid friendly.  We will continue going there for family meals. The waitress at the Truro location was extremely helpful because she put up with my kids drink orders. I give you the Mountain Dew/Orange Soda colour changing experiment.

We didn't stay in Truro long because our next move was to go to the Island. You've all seen my Island before, it's family visits. So this will be he end of the Summer Vacation. Once on the Island, we visited family and I cooked some Lasagna for my inlaws, and before we knew it it was time to go home. Vacations really are too short.

How I Spent My Summer Vacation Part 3

So the story continues. Last we left we were at Upper Clements Park in Upper Clements, Nova Scotia. So after staying there ALL day for a really reasonable fee, fun rides, Zip Lines  and rides where my kids did all the driving?

View from the back off my paddle boat ride Chauffers Age 13 and 10.

AJ in the driver's seat.

I called the day a total success. Well you know what? The Day got better! yes it did.  We drove to the town of New Minas, met up with some friends, and had supper. It was 8pm on a wing night , and it was great. It was nice and slow eating, talking and the kids had a great time. We tried to stick to one place in particular because they had a good deal on and we know based on the location in our home town that it's always good food. The kids like it! There's nothing better than going somewhere that makes your kids feel comfortable and that he food is made just for them.
After eating, we checked into our hotel and slept like rocks! it was hot but we were all well worn out from the fun at the Park that it didn't matter at all. Next morning we headed out to see Hubbie's University to show the kids around. It's kind of a "you know I worked hard, went to university and got me a good base for my current job" message for our older boys mostly.  I know they're young still but it's the tiny hints that drive the message home. Also to be had there? Free wifi!  After stopping through Wolfville we headed out to Halifax. Oh there was also a stop at Grand Pre Winery for some ah supplies.. hehe. I even bought myself a hoody in a smaller than i was wearing size just because.
Halifax was great fun! we hit Cows Ice Cream shop on the Wharf, and well because I managed to melt my ice cream down my shirt, I had to buy a hoody. Couldn't go out to eat with ice cream showing right? So zippered up my hoody and headed out to a Pizza place. Yummy!
Another night of sleeping, lots and lots off sleeping. One thing we did bring with us this trip was a inflatable Bed. Some places just don't seem to make rooms big enough  for spare cots so with our single inflatable we had lots of guarenteed room for all.
Friday we spent the day down on the wharf again. It was the Buskers Week so we got to see some nice free shows and we took a trip with on this guy for a tour of the harbour.

Theodore!!! Thanks for the Tour!

MJ got to Captain Theodore too.
The Theodore Tour was fabulous! the staff there were excellent. Everyone was so happy and friendly. I love when that happens. It really does make kids and families enjoy themselves.

Random Tuesday Thoughts

Yes it is Still Tuesdsay. I'm going to work on it with the pictures...

Random meal last week. Beef and Bean Chimichangas...

These are the whole wheat ones. I also managed to colour code others that had spicy peppers with decorations..

non peppered ones are for the boys. Now I want to make these again. Must get supplies. they are so good.

So much better than the Rat burger I just heard someone say on TV tonight. ick!

Went Apple Picking last week with my youngest. Way fun...

Now that MJ is 7.5 this was way more fun than previous years. The Farm is awesome. They also had toy cars and wagons for the kids, horses to feed and lots off great apples. yummy!

This is the beautiful view from the orchard. This is why I love living here, it's a 15minute drive from my house.

In other Random. I didn't finish my Vacation posts yet, there is so much more fun that was had, even a leaky roof.

Linking up for more Random, go see Stacy! She's uncorked!

How I Spent my Summer Vacation Part 2

So where did I leave you all off? Ah yes. We were packing our Bags and packing up the van again at the Garrison Inn in Annapolis Royal. I was a tad bummed I didn't get to the Museum across the street but on our walk? we did get to read up on some of the local history and we took the kids to a playground, and a walk along the board walk. A majority of the Inns and B&Bs back out from the main strip to the Ocean. It's not swimming ocean but it's beautiful.
This is Mr10 on the exercise equipment found in the playground.  Mr13 is over there on the swing leg thing in the back ground.  These pieces of equipment are rated for 10 and up.
Also regular playground equipment
What's a Boating Community without a Boat play Structure?
beautiful views behind the playground

The View from the Wharf
So after playing off some steam we took the boys out to Upper Clements Park. Wait until you see the fun they had there! I really want to show you everything but it's hard to do without me feeling like your sitting through a old fashion slide show. Okay so a Glimpse of Upper Clements Park...
