For Other Peeps and Their mini Peeps
If your Children and yourself are at a Sporting Event? wouldn't you want to see how your kids are doing? Wouldn't you want to be able to see the event? Yesterday I had the opportunity to take my 2 youngest Sons to my Middle Son's Cross Country Race. The School did a wonderful job sponsoring this event. I love that they include every Child that wants to join from Grade 3-5. It's a great way for kids to feel accomplished and every Racer gets a Ribbon. It's a feel good event.
My complaint today comes from the parents that think that their child is so very important that they don't need to follow the Rules. The event happened in a public park, and while they couldn't close the track for the race they had an area roped off for the spectators while the race was going on. I had my 5yrold with me. He sat down "behind" the rope so he could see his older Brother run. He's a great Cheerer, but about 8 times another child from another school or even my children's school would step OVER MJ and stand infront of him. I had to repeatedly point this out to them. Parents were no better. All of the children pushed the rope that was to keep the spectators out of the Runners way out into the Running track. I spent more time worrying that some child would trip over another child then I did enjoying seeing my child run this race. The majority of the race happens outside of that area, we don't see them for about 3/4 of the race.
I'm not pleased that I had to pull the rope back myself to keep these kids off the path. I'm not pleased that I was the only parent doing this? The teachers also couldn't keep their kids off the path. I am not pleased.
I will say that one Teacher from our Sponsoring School did an Excellent job! she did it so covertly that it worked. She was going around with a plastic bag to collect all of the empty Juice Boxes for deposit. When she did this? She moved along the line each step moving the kids back out of the line of the track. This didn't work for the whole race but it did move the kids for a bit.
OK I think I'm done complaining. My AJ came in 53rd for Grade 4 boys!! This is a 4 place advance from last week. Hubbie will take them running again Saturday. TJ is also in Cross country. He'll be running at the same park this afternoon, but with the Middle School Crowd.
and of course I forgot my camera!! this is getting serious, I may need to get a cellphone with a camera at this rate. Anyone in Canada want to order Avon? or Become an independant Sales Rep?(it is not a Pyramid Scheme as such) :p

Not a pyramid scheme. Hehe!
I hate it when other parents allow their kids to run roughshod over everything. Annoys me beyond belief.
Good job to your runner! That's great!
I hope you got to enjoy it a little bit. freakin parents!
It's okay to rant. They should be watching their children, there is no excuse for that!
some rules are not meant to be broken.
Let is out... Yeah..
Kenny Chesney sings country...
What is wrong with people that they don't see the problem with that? Yay for your track star!
Ugh. I hate that. I was that mom with little kids at my daughter's events and I NEVER let my little ones get in other's way. I think at times I may be over-worried about my kids getting in the way. At least no one will bitch about my kids this way.
I get pretty miffed at our school functions for the same reasons, people seem to believe they are the exception to the rule and common courtesies are overrated. I always feel like that intrusive mother hen constantly making sure my kids don't get trampled and pushed aside. Sigh.
Congrats on the place advancement. Woo-hoo.
Congratulations to your son! It is very frustrated when parents don't "parent", especially when you are trying to teach your child to be a good neighbor. "I am not pleased", very gracious wording Kyooty!
Have a great week..
At least the kids have an excuse to do somewhat inconsiderate things maybe without even noticing, they're kids. But I see adults ALL THE TIME doing things like blocking off an intersection, speeding up with I turn on my blinker, honking IMMEDIATELY when the light turns green, dropping things in retail stores and leaving the items on the floor... I wonder sometimes where manners and consideration have gone. And, because many adults act this way, I almost feel we cant blame the poor kids who are getting no good examples to follow at home.
Congrats to your boys though! Both the runner and the cheerer!
Yeah, there is always someone who doesn't want to play along and follow the rules. Well done to your son though. Sounds like a really good event.
With the mood I've been in lately they're lucky I wasn't there. I'd have turned it into a Rugby match ;)
