Progress Reports

Our Part of NB is using a new progress and report card system. The new System grades Students from a 0-4 section.  For the Progress Reports the options are Progressing Well, Progressing,  Progressing with Difficulty and Not Applicable.
It's relatively easy to figure these steps out but I feel they lead to a feeling by the students that they are being graded subjectively. You either know the answers or you don't? You either know 1-100% of the work or you don't. I really like the Precentage Grading system and my sons do as well. N/A is a given for all students who have not been taught the work yet.
There are some parents that are speaking out against the grading system. I've taken the survey sent out by the principal of my school This gives the impression that the Education system will be taking these surveys and doing something beyond reading them. I'mmmmmmmmm not so sure about that, see I did a survey in the Spring before the system was put into effect. I ask questions, I answered questions and I pointed out may of the same arguments I've read other parents and guardians state. The Responsible Adult at home you know the ones trying to move their children/siblings/grands, cousins or foster children to adulthood.
Some parents have decided that this is the right time to blame the teachers? Seriously?
It is not the Teachers fault, they can only do the job they are hired to do within the time and constraints given them.   Limited resources are all over this provinnce. Do not blame a teacher they, like many others, are employees. They have unions and try to influence the system to pay them wel and respect their education and skills but remember they are not the ones writing the checks. They are not the ones taxing their income, or insisting on unpaid volunteer hours.  If you don't like the way your job is being done and you don't write the checks that pay your own salary, you wont ever get what you feel you deserve. There is always someone holding the purse strings. There is always someone judging your ability to do your job.
I'm not at all saying there are some bad teachers. Yes there are some people put in the position of teaching students that should never be responsible for the education of children, or even  adults. This is about putting the blame where it belongs on the cost of education and the lack of funds to teach students.
I managed to get to 2 Parent conferences. I too am being judged on my ability to educate my Children. It is my responsibility to get them that education and make sure  they are in school and doing their work. At some point though I have to let them go and be responsible for their own education. They are the students. They are the people that are going to go off and leave my nest, and find careers of their own. That too is a hard balance.  Once in the job they will be judged and assessed on their ability to do their jobs. Will those jobs say Progressing Well, Progressing, Progressing with difficulty?  Maybe, or Maybe they will just be let go?  Let's just call that a ramble?
